Sigatoka Control

Natural Fungicide for the Control of Sigatoka

Sigatoka Control is an oil-based fungicide that is applicable on leaves as a foliar spray. It targets a fungal pathogen, Mycosphaerella fijiensis, commonly known as Sigatoka. This fungus spreads quickly and can cause significant damage, so action should be taken in advance to prevent the germination of the pathogen.

Efficacy

Effective at preventing the germination of the Sigatoka fungus (Mycosphaerella fijiensis) and aids in the recovery of the plant.

Application

Before the beginning of disease occurrence, use 3.8 mL of product with one gallon (1 gal.) of water to dilute Sigatoka Control and apply every 8 – 10 days. At the first sign of a disease outbreak, apply every 4 – 7 days. It can also be used in other quantities during disease outbreak, respecting the dilution rate of 1:1,000; product to water. After dilution, spray the product onto plant leaf or drench the soil. Do not apply prior to excessive rains, since this may reduce product effectiveness. Application should be repeated to optimize the prevention and control of Sigatoka since it is a fast spreading pathogen that quickly and severely damages crops, specifically the banana tree. Prevention can be achieved if Sigatoka Control is applied frequently 8 to 10 days apart. It is important to not wait until symptoms are noticed, as it spreads very fast. At this point, it will be too late to control the outbreak. If infection occurs, repeat applications every 4 to 7 days to control the infection .

Active Ingredients

Sigatoka Control is an oil-based fungicide derived from plants of the Myrtaceae, Poaceae, and Lauraceae families. This group of substances is a mixture of terpenoids, flavonids, alkaloids and phenolic compounds, and they are capable of reducing damage from diseases.

Safety & Environmental Info

May cause stomach damage if swallowed. This product is environmentally friendly. It is non-toxic to people and livestock and causes no pollution to water or soil. Appropriate land management practices should be used at all times with any fungicide/pesticide; this material should be prevented from entering public or private water supplies (including wells) and any lake, stream, or river.

Mode of Action

Plant extracts provide the plant with a high quantity of secondary metabolites extracted from the tissues of Myrtaceae, Poaceae and Lauraceae plants. These secondary metabolites are not products involved in the main metabolic pathway of the plant where they are synthesized, but they are required by plants as defenses against attacks by fungi, insects, and others providing systematic acquired resistance (SAR) to the Sigatoka fungus.
